Trick or Treat

Hwblinky3_3

I had never imagined that Gavin would be so into it this year.  One of his favorite things to do is look through the catalog papers of all the different Halloween costumes.  He had no problem putting on masks and costumes and hats.  Thoroughly enjoyed the few walks we’d take through the neighborhood to look at all the decorations.  He was just so into it.

Halloween morning we carved our pumpkin.  Gavin was a little hesitant when he saw all the "goop" inside the Dscf2693a pumpkin, but he did a great job and loved helping.  He even helped pick out all the pumpkin seeds so that we could roast them in the oven.  In the photo here I had told Gavin to look inside to make sure we got out all the goop, all I can say is that he really knows how to use his head in a job. LOL

We went over to my mother-in-law’s late afternoon so she could get pictures of all her grandkids together in their costumes.  We ordered pizza and got ready to hit the pavement for some sweets.  Gavin was more than eager to go trick or treating.  He also wanted to just hang out and talk to everyone.  Each time he did, they’d give him another treat in his plastic pumpkin bucket.  We walked around my mother-in-laws for about an hour then headed home, which is just a short 3 minute drive away.  Daddy was passing out candy in our neighborhood.  I relieved him and he took Gavin around our neighborhood for a bit.  This kid got so much candy, he will never go through it all.  Though I seem to be doing a good job of helping him on that.

Halloween Party

Today we had our playgroup Halloween party.  Moderators of our playgroup reserved a multi-purpose room at a local church.  They have a prechool so there’s always fun things for the kids to do.  We do a kid-friendly potluck and the kids get to run around and play while the moms chat.  The kids [and some moms] were all dressed up in their halloween costumes. It was so cute to see all of them. Dscf2651a  Gavin in his Mike Wazowski costume and there was even a little gal dressed as Sullivan.  Gavin kept saying "Hi Sullivan".  I tried to get a picture of the two of them together, but the little girl took her costume off before I could capture one.  The kids got to paint a baby pumpkin and each got a treat bag.  It was a great turn out and the kids had a wonderful time.

Afterward Gavin and I stopped to pick out our Halloween pumpkin to carve.  We stopped at Willson Barn, they always have the grounds all festive this time of the year, plus their pumkin patch is huge! Gavin and I walked around. Dscf2673a They had a mini petting farm set up, pony rides and a moonwalk.  The weather was beautiful.  Gavin went on the moonwalk and took a pony ride.  He did not want to get off the pony.  We picked out our pumpkin, chased each other up and down all the aisles of pumpkins and then headed home for a nap.  You can see more pictures from our day in the "Halloween Time" photo album.

Another Firehouse Visit

Went to another firehouse today with our other playgroup.  The kids always have the best time on fieldtrips like these.  All the firemen were so nice.  We had a brief tour of their living quarters and they played a cartoon movie aimed at kids on fire safety.  Gavin now knows who "Ruff the Fire Dog" is.  Dscf2641a Of course the best part of all is the firetruck.  Each of the kids took turns climbing aboard and sitting in the ever honorable driver’s seat.  Gavin always does so surprisingly well at times like these.  I tell him he’s got to wait his turn and he is so polite in waiting his turn without whining demands, and even comes down from the seat so that the next child can take his/her turn.  It’s moments like this that make me so proud.  As we’re waiting in line, he’ll recite "Got to wait your turn" to himself and the kids around him, it’s so sweet.  Afterward we all went to lunch at a nearby Eastside Mario’s.  We had a great time.

Later in the evening we went to watch Daddy referee a local hockey game.  Gavin just loves hockey. He’s yelling for the players to "Skate" and "Get the puck".  He’ll move around as if he’s on skates, pretending to check and shoot the puck.  What a riot, this kid.  He couldn’t understand, however, why Daddy couldn’t stop skating to come over and say hi. Dscf2646a Afterward Daddy took him out on the ice.  He did fairly well considring he was in his tennis shoes.  He didn’t quite know what to do and after just a few minutes asked to get off the ice.  Suppose we’ll just stick to carpet hockey at home for the time being.

5pm Already?

Where the heck does the day go? I’m here at work, which for me is often the more convenient time to update my blog. My boss was out of town today, so while the cat’s away, the mouse can play. I had planned to do some serious updating, even brought my picture cd’s.

Turns out the boss had quite a list of things to keep me busy her today. Tried my darndest to finish up at least by 4:30pm so I could play around. But here it is 5pm quitin time and I have no time left ‘cept to post this boring update.

Not much going on for the weekend. It’s definitely fall here (TJ)… gonna barely get above 50 degrees tomorrow.  Husband is off this weekend… under normal circumstances that’d be pretty cool, but why is it that I’d much rather he be at work, something amiss there?? He want’s to clean the basement.. eww. Doing projects like that I’d much rather attempt on my own. He and I both try and take charge and it just doesn’t work.

Well.. have a great weekend, I’ll try and post over the weekend between the basement dust and 2 year old tantrums (from both my son and husband.. LOL)

For TJ

Yeah.. I know the feeling about waiting eagerly for strangers to comment on what can basically be catagorized as your life.  It was kind of a shock to see that my blog was specifically pointed out as one that’s.. well… lacking in updates.  Maybe it’s writers block, maybe it’s just that I don’t think that my life is all that exciting to write about. I enjoy reading all kinds of blogs and find myself comparing their life to mine.  I can’t seem to find reason why anyone would want to check in on MY life, ya know?

I’ve had a 4 day weekend the past couple weeks, this weekend included. I normally have Mondays and Thursdays off, but needed to switch my Fridays the past couple weeks for childcare reasons.  It’s late Friday night/early Saturday morning and I’m still in my pajamas from last night. I don’t even think Shea has gotten this bad during her little "mini vacation".  I’ve watched Toy Story and Monsters Inc probably 100 times the last couple weeks, so in search for some adult conversation, I called my girlfriends earlier hoping to catch some time out.. but it seems they had other things to do.  I’ve been missing my friends lately, missing those good ole days. I seem to get all nostalgic now and then and spending most of my waking hours with a 2 year old will probaby do that.

I apologize TJ and anyone else who visits. I’m a bad blogger, I know. I’ll try to do better.

Gavin's new costume

Took Gavin shopping for his halloween costume.. read about it here.

Mike Wazowski

Mike2_1 Went shopping for Gavin’s Halloween costume this past weekend. I originally was going to somehow create a "Motorcycle Guy" costume for him considering how much he LOVES motorcycles.  He’s seem to take a liking as well to PowerRangers. So while at the store we saw this costume. It’s Mike Wazowski from Monster’s Inc. which is one of his favorite movies right now.  He has watched it over and over.  At first he puts the hat on. "Gavin wear it?" he asks.  He’s walking around Halloween USA store with this hat on.  After seeing how excited he was, I had decided we found his costume.  Well, I had to try the rest on him to make sure it fit.  He would not take it off.  he wore it in every store afterward, catching a glimpse of himself in a mirror whenever he could.  He was just so darned cute.  I’ll be sure and post pictures of him in the costume as soon as I get them up on my computer.  Halloween’s going to be fun this year.

43 Year Old Virgin

Found out yesterday that my 17 year old son, Ray (who lives with his dad) is no longer a virgin. Suppose I knew this day would come and frankly I’m not all that surprised, he’s at that age.  Shoot, most of the guys I’ve known all lost it a lot sooner.  He’s had the same girlfriend for over a year now. She’s a sweet gal, still I worry. She’s a year younger on top of it.

Turns out my ex found a condom wrapper; haven’t gotten the whole story yet.  My ex tells me he needs to have a few words with him.  Inside my head, I’m thinking… weren’t you ‘porking’ me when I was a mere pup at the less than ripe age of 17? Shit, I was pregnant with our son just 8 months after high school.  I’m just glad he’s using protection.  Turns out his dad gave him the condoms.  He’s going to be 18 in January for pete’s sake.  But he does need to respect his girlfriends mother.  I have no idea how much of all this she’s aware of.  I’ve been informed that my ex and Ray’s girlfriend’s mother don’t get along.

It’s hard for me to think of my son being sexually active. When I look at him, I see this little child still.  I see him with cookie all over his shirt and a kool-aid stain mustache.  They grow up so fast.  It forces me to treasure every moment I have with my 2 and a half year old.  I want him to be this little guy forever, who will always need his mommy.  Wow.
