Headbanging Riot
Sunday night [Nov 6], hubby and I went to the Fox Theatre downtown. We had suite tickets for Audioslave. It was like a Audioslave/Soundgarden/Rage Agains the Machine concert, we even got to hear some Temple of the Dog. What a fricken blast. I haven’t rocked out like that in a long time. Hubby and I were both jumping up and down like mad. I was always a fan of Rage and hearing the band alone, regardless of the old singer being gone.. it was awesome. Same goes for Chris Cornell, his voice is just incredible. What a kick ass concert! Hubby and I really enjoyed ourselves.
Halloween Weekend
Seems I’m about a week behind in my updates. Halloween weekend was fun. Friday night (Oct 28) I hung out at my friend Amy’s place. I think this is why I enjoy reading Shea’s blog so much is because she and Carly remind me of Amy and myself back in the day. She and I were roommates.. and just like Carly and Shea, we’d get silly at her apartment. So Friday night I went over to Amy’s. We originally had plans to go out, but after 3 beers and a bag of McD’s we ended up just drinking more and watching Night at the Roxbury. That movie always cracks me up. Amy fell asleep while we were watching it.. I was home and in bed by 1am.
Saturday I ended up hanging out with some of the moms in my playgroup with Gavin. We all dressed up and headed out to Boogie Fever in Ferndale. What a blast. We had so much fun.. I ended up going dressed as an angel. At about half past midnight, I left the gals at Boogie Fever and headed to my usual haunt in Royal Oak, Club Luna, and zoning out on the dance floor. Ran into some old friends there that I hadn’t seen in quite some time.
Sunday.. Sunday.. What the heck did I do on the Sunday before Halloween. Shit it’s only been a week and I can’t seem to remember. I know I did something. Well Halloween was fun. Gavin had a blast trick or treating, more details on that can be found on his blog.
Pump It Up
Took Gavin to Pump It Up this past Thursday. Man oh man is that place a blast. It’s got several of these huge inflatable "moonwalks" that the kids can jump in. One is an obstacle course and even a giant slide. It’s normally a place just for private parties, but a couple times a week they have open play. On Thursday morning the open play was for ages 5 and under only. For 5 bucks a child [parents play free] you can play all you want for just about 2 hours. And believe me, after an hour and a half, I was beat, who knew that jumping in a moonwalk would be such exercise. Gavin and I were laughing ourselves silly quite often. Hoping we’ll be able to have his third birthday party there, what a fun place for a birthday party, and a private one at that. It’s a little pricey, but still cheaper than renting just one of those inflatables for a backyard. Gavin and I will definitely be going to open play again soon, that was fun!
Catching Up
So quite a bit has actually been going on. Turns out that weekend we were suppose to clean the basement (Oct 22-23); well my husband decided to get all romantically spontaneous and came up with the idea Saturday morning that he wanted to drive up to Frankenmuth, MI for the night. So I start searching online for places to stay. Nothing was open in Frankenmuth, all the hotels were booked. We ended up getting a room about 12 miles northwest in Saginaw. I had made plans already to meet up with my cousin and her girls to take the kids to a Halloween Festival at Nankin Mills off Hines Park. We did that until about 3pm then hit the road. Only took little over an hour and a half drive.
Frankenmuth is such a sweet little town to visit. Very Bavarian and Folk. Lots of little shops along the main street. And you can’t go to Frankenmuth without visiting the "Worlds Largest Christmas Store" Bronner’s. Gavin really enjoyed all the Christmas decorations. Dave had never been there before and even as a guy was completely amazed over a Christmas Store. Actually turned out to be a fun weekend, and here I tought I was going to be cleaning the basement.
Trick or Treat
I had never imagined that Gavin would be so into it this year. One of his favorite things to do is look through the catalog papers of all the different Halloween costumes. He had no problem putting on masks and costumes and hats. Thoroughly enjoyed the few walks we’d take through the neighborhood to look at all the decorations. He was just so into it.
Halloween morning we carved our pumpkin. Gavin was a little hesitant when he saw all the "goop" inside the pumpkin, but he did a great job and loved helping. He even helped pick out all the pumpkin seeds so that we could roast them in the oven. In the photo here I had told Gavin to look inside to make sure we got out all the goop, all I can say is that he really knows how to use his head in a job. LOL
We went over to my mother-in-law’s late afternoon so she could get pictures of all her grandkids together in their costumes. We ordered pizza and got ready to hit the pavement for some sweets. Gavin was more than eager to go trick or treating. He also wanted to just hang out and talk to everyone. Each time he did, they’d give him another treat in his plastic pumpkin bucket. We walked around my mother-in-laws for about an hour then headed home, which is just a short 3 minute drive away. Daddy was passing out candy in our neighborhood. I relieved him and he took Gavin around our neighborhood for a bit. This kid got so much candy, he will never go through it all. Though I seem to be doing a good job of helping him on that.
Halloween Party
Today we had our playgroup Halloween party. Moderators of our playgroup reserved a multi-purpose room at a local church. They have a prechool so there’s always fun things for the kids to do. We do a kid-friendly potluck and the kids get to run around and play while the moms chat. The kids [and some moms] were all dressed up in their halloween costumes. It was so cute to see all of them. Gavin in his Mike Wazowski costume and there was even a little gal dressed as Sullivan. Gavin kept saying "Hi Sullivan". I tried to get a picture of the two of them together, but the little girl took her costume off before I could capture one. The kids got to paint a baby pumpkin and each got a treat bag. It was a great turn out and the kids had a wonderful time.
Afterward Gavin and I stopped to pick out our Halloween pumpkin to carve. We stopped at Willson Barn, they always have the grounds all festive this time of the year, plus their pumkin patch is huge! Gavin and I walked around. They had a mini petting farm set up, pony rides and a moonwalk. The weather was beautiful. Gavin went on the moonwalk and took a pony ride. He did not want to get off the pony. We picked out our pumpkin, chased each other up and down all the aisles of pumpkins and then headed home for a nap. You can see more pictures from our day in the "Halloween Time" photo album.

Another Firehouse Visit
Went to another firehouse today with our other playgroup. The kids always have the best time on fieldtrips like these. All the firemen were so nice. We had a brief tour of their living quarters and they played a cartoon movie aimed at kids on fire safety. Gavin now knows who "Ruff the Fire Dog" is. Of course the best part of all is the firetruck. Each of the kids took turns climbing aboard and sitting in the ever honorable driver’s seat. Gavin always does so surprisingly well at times like these. I tell him he’s got to wait his turn and he is so polite in waiting his turn without whining demands, and even comes down from the seat so that the next child can take his/her turn. It’s moments like this that make me so proud. As we’re waiting in line, he’ll recite "Got to wait your turn" to himself and the kids around him, it’s so sweet. Afterward we all went to lunch at a nearby Eastside Mario’s. We had a great time.
Later in the evening we went to watch Daddy referee a local hockey game. Gavin just loves hockey. He’s yelling for the players to "Skate" and "Get the puck". He’ll move around as if he’s on skates, pretending to check and shoot the puck. What a riot, this kid. He couldn’t understand, however, why Daddy couldn’t stop skating to come over and say hi. Afterward Daddy took him out on the ice. He did fairly well considring he was in his tennis shoes. He didn’t quite know what to do and after just a few minutes asked to get off the ice. Suppose we’ll just stick to carpet hockey at home for the time being.
