Only 9 Days??!!
Thanks to Jenna for reminding me that there is only 9 days until Christmas. I have less to buy for, but more to buy for this year, if that makes any sense. On my side of the family, of my siblings and cousins, our children total about 15 kids. We always just bought for the kids and never exchanged between ourselves. Every year I bought all 15 kids pajama’s, pretty easy and within budget. Well this year, my sister and cousin decided that buying for the 15 kids was just too much. I never complained, considering that having the least amount of offspring, I had the most kids to buy for. My cousin alone has 4 girls. Well anyway, so this year we put all the kids names in a hat and drew for each child. On the plus side, it’s a little more fair. My cousin, having 4 children herself, has 4 to buy for. Am I making any sense?? So since I just have Gavin, I only have one child to buy for. But this now also means that the kids will be getting less this year because they won’t be getting gifts from everyone, just from the cousin that picked their name. That’s all fine and dandy to us parents, but what about the little ones? Now, other than what their grandparents get them, they will only have one gift to open. Maybe the older ones will understand, but we can’t expect the littles ones to. So, now I have less to buy for this year.. and that part is done.
Now on my husbands side… he has a smaller family with less than half as many nieces and nephews as my family. Everyone pretty much just bought for the kids and for grandparents. This year, they decide to exchange names and include everyone in the draw. So I have less kids to buy for, but now more because I drew my brother-in-law, Gavin drew my sister-in-law, and Dave drew his sister’s husband. So we ended up with no kids to buy for there, but now 3 adults instead, that we’re not used to buying for. I have no idea what to get my brother-in-law. I’d much rather go into Target on any one given day between now and Christmas and just buy 20 pairs of pajamas and be done with it.
We do the same thing with my husband’s family and we have each person make up a list (to be added to a master list) and e-mail it around so that each person has maybe four or five gifts to choose from to buy, makes it so much easier. I would never know what to get for anybody. But, it has gotten to where so many of the older kids ask for gift cards, which I personally don’t like – it takes all the fun out of watching them open it. Try it, it really is easier. Merry Christmas!
I haven’t even started shopping yet! oh boy,
Thanfully, I only have 5 people to buy for. No one in my family get along so around this time of year it works out for the best 😉
Thanks for your kind words about my embarrassing experience. You put a smile on my face 🙂
What do you think of all this snow?!
Whooo. That is alot of presents and giving…etc. For the adults, I love to give gift certificates, it allows them to get whatever they want. Leaving them happy as well as me happy. Maybe that would work for your brother in law???
Good Luck and Merry Christmas!!!!
